Uh-oh. Money Honey Maria Bartiromo went off the reservation over at CNBC last week, over the fiscal cliff negotiations, or rather lack there of. And traders on the floor of the NYSE erupted in cheers.
“That’s all you want to do. That’s it. It’s your way or the highway. Raise the rates on the rich. No other way. Your way or the highway. That’s it. That’s where we are. Thank you, Senator.”
Conventional wisdom (and therefore the dominant narrative in the media) focuses on Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans being intransigent and not meeting President Obama and the Democrats for a “balanced approach.” Bartiromo exploded that narrative by challenging Cardin on ANY alternative type of revenue stream that doesn’t include raising tax rates. Cardin would not agree to any of them, thus destroying the idea that Democrats are embracing the “balanced approach.” …
What happened next was one of [the] unscripted and spontaneous events that we love seeing on CNBC…. After Bartiromo called Cardin (and all Democrats) out for their duplicitous approach the traders erupted in cheers and applause. They were rewarding her for finally doing what most anchors and reporters refuse to do. Instead of reporting on the fiscal cliff negotiations like it’s a football game or a soap opera, we need journalists to actually know the facts and to challenge the narratives presented by the politicians who are trotted out in front of the cameras.
Mediaite reports the exchange slightly differently:
During an interview last week, CNBC anchor Maria Bartiromo went off on Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) over what she perceived to be his frustrating insistence that the Republicans are not offering a “balanced approach” in the ongoing “fiscal cliff” negotiations.
“Are you guys incompetent, or what?” Bartiromo pointedly asked the senator, emphasizing that both his party and the opposing Republicans repeatedly accuse each other of not having a “balanced approach” in negotiation to avoid the so-called “cliff.”
She continued to berate Cardin: “If you can’t do what the American people pay you to do, why don’t you just step aside and put somebody in there who can actually get a deal done?”
There may be hope for NBC yet. Naw, Bartiromo should see Neil Cavuto soon. Let’s face it, she won’t last much longer at the peacock by exposing and berating the Obama–Reid–Pelosi waterboys right out on the floor. Where people cheer sanity and stuff.
The fact is, the country is in the tank for $16 trillion and none of these Democrat hacks have put a dime in spending cuts on the table.
